Measuring Overshades

before you start

Overshades are designed to fit horizontal - or sloped - skylight recesses where the side walls are parallel to each other and at right angles to the glass.

If you have 'stepped' recesses then you may still be able to fit our blinds, but please talk to us first.

We recommend using a quality laser measure - used correctly they are very, very accurate.

Recesses that are 'splayed' cannot be easily fitted with this system and we are not able to supply blinds on a ‘supply only’ basis…

Step 1

Decide on exactly where you're going to fit your blind.

Your Overshade is best installed at least 250mm from the top of your recess. This should allow plenty of room to install the transformer and make final wiring connections.

However the height is dependent on the position of your wiring. Your blind should be fitted beneath the power cord - so that your wiring connections are out of sight above the blind.

If your wiring is positioned very low down, or is not yet in place, consult with your electrician to determine the best position for your blind. Or send us a photo and we'll tell you what we think...

Step 2

Mark this height with a pencil

We strongly recommend that you leave a pencil mark (or similar) at this height, to reference when you come back to fit your blind.

Recess measurements vary at different heights - so this is important. If you take your measurements at one height and fit your blind at another, your blind may not fit correctly.

Step 3

TAKE THESE 4 MEASUREMENTS

A This is the position where the headrail of your blind will be fitted and where the blind will stack back to when it’s open. It’s also the same end that you power supply is located ( or, if you’ve a battery powered blind it’s where your solar panel will be installed)

B This is where the bottom rail will be fitted

C1 & C2 This is where the side rails will be fitted

Step 4

CHECK & COMPARE THESE SIZES

Once you've done this, take measurements every foot or so along the span of the recess. What you're doing here is checking that your recess doesn't vary too much in size.

Your window recess will not be perfectly 'square'. The Skyshade system has been designed to tolerate typical fluctuations in size.

BUT IF ANY OF THESE INTERMEDIATE MEASUREMENTS ARE MORE THAN 10MM / 1CM BIGGER - OR SMALLER - THAN THE SIZES YOU'RE ORDERING, THEN WE NEED TO KNOW.
